“With Carers at the heart of everything we do”
During this year’s Carers Week, Carers Voice Norfolk and Waveney is proud to celebrate a significant achievement: more than 5,000 Carers Identity Passports have now been issued to unpaid Carers of all ages across Norfolk and Waveney.
Carers Week, a national awareness campaign, highlights the critical role of unpaid Carers and the challenges they face, while celebrating their contribution to families and communities. The 2025 theme for this year is “Caring About Equality,”
The Carers Identity Passport was co-produced with Carers and staff from across health and social care. This simple yet powerful tool allows Carers to be quickly recognised by healthcare staff, so they don’t have to repeatedly explain their role. It acknowledges the depth of knowledge Carers bring—from understanding complex conditions and communication needs to providing care and advocating for the person they look after. The Carers Identity Passport is supported by the NHS Norfolk and Waveney Integrated Care Board.
“The strength of the Carers Identity Passport is in its simplicity,” said Sharon Brooks, Chief Officer of Carers Voice. “It gives Carers visibility without the need to retell their story. This initiative is a powerful example of how co-production leads to real change. I want to thank everyone involved in the development and promotion of the Carers Identity Passport—but most of all, the Carers who give so much of themselves, and who continue to make life better for others.”
The high demand for the Carers Identity Passport underscores the growing awareness of the need to better support unpaid Carers—a group whose efforts, though often unseen, are essential. According to Carers UK, unpaid Carers save the UK economy an estimated £184.3 billion each year.
